Taufbuch keeps everything you enter on your own device. It does not collect, transmit, sell or track any personal data, and it has no account, no analytics and no advertising of any kind.
What the app stores, and where
Taufbuch is a transcription and reference tool for reading digitised Austrian Catholic parish registers. Everything you create in the app — transcribed register entries, research log entries, saved page addresses, person records, glossary bookmarks, drill progress and app settings — is written only to your device's local storage, in the app's own document folder. None of it is uploaded anywhere, and none of it is visible to us or to any third party.
If you photograph a family document or choose a photo from your library to attach to a person or read alongside your transcription, that image is copied into the app's local storage on your device only. It is never uploaded, shared or analysed.
Data we do not collect
- No account, sign-in or profile of any kind.
- No analytics, crash reporting or usage tracking.
- No advertising identifiers and no advertising.
- No location data.
- No contacts, health or financial data.
- No data is sold or shared with third parties, because none is collected in the first place.
The register page viewer
The Reader screen includes a built-in web viewer so you can open the address of a scanned register page you are working from — typically a page hosted by an Austrian diocesan archive. This viewer only ever loads a page you have chosen to open. Taufbuch does not track, log or transmit which addresses you view; the address is kept in your own saved-pages list on your device. Loading a page uses your normal internet connection and is subject to the privacy practices of the website you chose to visit, which are outside our control.
Camera and photo library
Taufbuch asks for camera access so you can photograph a family document, and for photo library access so you can choose an existing photo. Both are used solely to attach an image to a person record or to view it beside your transcription. Access is requested only when you use these features, and images stay on your device.
Notifications
If you turn on the optional evening reading reminder in Settings, Taufbuch schedules a local notification on your device at the time you choose. This uses Apple's on-device notification system only; no data about your usage is sent to us or to Apple beyond what iOS itself requires to schedule the notification.
Children's privacy
Taufbuch is a genealogy reference tool intended for a general audience and is not directed at children. It does not knowingly collect information from anyone, regardless of age, because it collects no information at all.
Deleting your data
Because everything lives only on your device, deleting the app deletes all of its data with it. There is nothing stored on a server to request the deletion of.
Changes to this policy
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this same address with a new "last updated" date above.
