Does Taufbuch read the old handwriting for me?
No. Taufbuch does not do automatic handwriting recognition. The Kurrent Key screen teaches you the letterforms yourself, letter by letter, so you can read the register page in the viewer and transcribe it into the pad on the Reader screen.
Does the app search any archive or database for my ancestors?
No. Taufbuch does not connect to any genealogy database and does not search or claim any connection to a diocese or archive. You paste or save the address of a scan you already found, and the app helps you read and record what's on it.
Where is my transcribed data stored?
Everything you enter — transcriptions, research log entries, people and attached photos — is saved only on your device. Nothing is uploaded to a server. See the privacy policy for details.
The register page won't load in the built-in viewer. What can I do?
Check your internet connection and try the reload button on the Reader screen. Some archive sites are occasionally slow or briefly unavailable; if a page keeps failing, try again later or confirm the address is correct in your saved pages list.
Can I use the app without an internet connection?
Yes, apart from loading a register scan itself. The transcription pad, research log, Kurrent Key, daily drill and glossary all work fully offline.
